Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy: EduKate

1. Purpose of this Policy

At EduKate, the safety and wellbeing of children is our top priority. This Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy outlines our commitment to:

  • Protect children from harm and abuse.

  • Promote a safe and supportive learning environment.

  • Ensure that all tutors and staff act responsibly and in the best interests of students.

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All children and young people who use our services.

  • All parents/guardians who authorize use of the platform.

  • All staff, contractors, and tutors working with EduKate.

3. Our Responsibilities

We are committed to:

  • Following child protection laws and regulations applicable in United Kingdom. 

  • Ensuring all staff and tutors undergo background checks (e.g., DBS in the UK)

  • Providing tutors with guidance and training on safeguarding, online safety, and appropriate conduct.

4. Online Safety Measures

To ensure safe online learning, we:

  • Use secure online platforms with password-protected access.

  • Encourage parents/guardians to supervise children’s online sessions.

  • Record or monitor sessions where appropriate, for quality assurance and safety.

  • Prohibit private communication between tutors and students outside approved channels.

  • Require respectful, professional conduct from all participants.

5. Code of Conduct for Tutors

Tutors must:

  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times.

  • Never share personal contact information with students.

  • Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the Safeguarding Lead/Police.

  • Avoid one-to-one unsupervised contact outside scheduled lessons.

  • Use clear, respectful language and behaviour at all times.

6. Recognizing and Reporting Concerns

We recognize that children may be at risk of harm from:

  • Abuse (physical, emotional, sexual).

  • Neglect.

  • Bullying, harassment, or exploitation (including online grooming).

Reporting Procedure:

  • Any safeguarding concerns must be reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)/Police.

  • If a child is at immediate risk, emergency services or child protection authorities will be contacted.

  • Records of incidents and actions taken will be securely maintained.

7. Role of Parents/Guardians

Parents/guardians are expected to:

  • Provide accurate information about their child.

  • Supervise their child’s use of the online portal where possible.

  • Support tutors in reinforcing positive and safe behavior online.

  • Report any concerns to the Safeguarding Lead/Police.

8. Confidentiality

  • All safeguarding concerns are handled with sensitivity and in line with data protection laws.

  • Information will only be shared with appropriate authorities when necessary to protect a child.

9. Safeguarding Lead
